WomanUp Case Study

Building a Confident, Connected Cohort of Women in Technology

Client:

A fast-growing technology company (referred to as “The Organisation”), running its first structured leadership development programme for women across its talent pipeline — from analyst through to principal engineer.

Challenge

The majority of women across The Organisation had never had access to structured coaching.

Confidence in applying for promotion, articulating personal strengths, and speaking up in meetings were consistently the lowest-rated leadership indicators — a quiet barrier to progression that traditional training hadn’t addressed. The Organisation needed a programme that could reach a genuinely diverse cross-section of its workforce, across both in-person and remote teams.

Working in a traditionally male-dominated industry, participants described familiar barriers to progression: self-doubt, ideas being overshadowed by others, limited access to coaching or mentorship, and the pressure of balancing demanding operational roles with family life.

The Solution

WomanUp with Flying Iguana

Flying Iguana delivered WomanUp to a cohort of 18 women, split across face-to-face and virtual delivery. The programme combined Spotlight performance profiling — the single most useful element, giving participants an objective baseline for self-awareness — with group coaching modules including Super Strengths and Banish the Imposter. These directly targeted the cohort’s two lowest-confidence areas: owning personal strengths and speaking up. The Personal Tribe module helped participants map their support networks, while the shared, all-women cohort experience itself became a powerful source of belonging — with several participants committing to ongoing reflection practices beyond the programme.

Impact & Results

Every one of the five measured dimensions improved, with the two confidence-related measures — promotion readiness and strengths awareness — showing the most significant gains. Both delivery formats produced strong outcomes, with virtual participants showing the highest gains in promotion confidence and speaking up, and face-to-face participants making the strongest gains in work-life balance. With over 60% of participants new to coaching, the programme reached exactly the audience that needed it most — and the cohort experience itself created a lasting sense of community that organisations rarely achieve through training alone.

Testimonial

“Set aside any first impressions and think of this as an opportunity to connect with colleagues in a space that is all women and safer for it. Having a cohort of women like this is transformative and shouldn’t be underestimated.”
