WomanUp Case Study

A Pilot Programme That Built Confidence — and a Lasting Network — in a Male-Dominated Industry

Client

A leading infrastructure and construction services group (referred to as “The Organisation”), piloting a women’s development programme for ten women spanning operations, finance, HR, planning, and quantity surveying.

Challenge

Working in a traditionally male-dominated industry, participants described familiar barriers to progression: self-doubt, ideas being overshadowed by others, limited access to coaching or mentorship, and the pressure of balancing demanding operational roles with family life.

Many wanted to move into management or director-level roles but lacked the confidence — and in some cases the language — to put themselves forward. The Organisation needed a pilot that could demonstrate measurable impact quickly and build a genuine network among participants.

The Solution

WomanUp with Flying Iguana

Flying Iguana delivered an intensive face-to-face WomanUp pilot for ten women, combining Spotlight performance profiling — rated 9.3/10 for usefulness, the highest-rated element of the pilot — with four group coaching modules over two days, followed by individual 1:1 coaching. Super Strengths gave participants the language to own what they bring to the table, while Banish the Imposter helped them understand how past triggers were still shaping present-day responses. Unlocking Dreams reconnected participants with their own ambitions, and Personal Tribe encouraged them to map their support networks and ask for help — something many had never done before. The effect extended well beyond the room: participants formed an ongoing peer support group, and several used their newfound confidence to take immediate action, from applying for new roles to raising pay and grading conversations with their managers.

Impact & Results

Across all four modules, participants reported an average confidence improvement of 20%, with individual shifts as high as 60% — the most striking gains coming in speaking up in meetings and talking about personal strengths. Coaches and the overall programme were both rated 98% by delegates, with half the cohort saying every single module had been valuable to them. Beyond the numbers, the pilot’s lasting legacy has been the network it created: participants continued to support and hold each other accountable long after the formal sessions ended, giving The Organisation a clear evidence base for extending the programme to a wider group of employees.
